Dr Ruth Watson – Director

Clinical Psychologist

 

Dr Ruth Watson completed her doctorate in 2004, and currently works part-time as a Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist within NHS Older Adult Mental Health services. Her role involves assessment and therapeutic work with complex cases presenting with a variety of mental health and relationship difficulties. Therapeutic work is informed by cognitive-behavioural therapy, cognitive-analytic and behavioural approaches. She also undertakes detailed neuropsychological assessments of those with suspected cognitive impairment.

 

Dr Watson provides regular consultation to staff working on mental health wards, and Dementia liaison teams, regarding management of behavioural and psychosocial symptoms of dementia. She is involved in the design and delivery of training to staff, carers and service users across the NHS trust. Additionally she provides regular teaching on the Manchester doctorate course in Clinical Psychology, and frequently supervises trainees from all three North-West Clinical Psychology courses. Dr Watson is employed by Dementia UK as a clinical supervisor for two of the North-West Admiral Nurse groups.

 

As a director of Assured Psychological Services Ltd, Dr Watson offers assessment and therapeutic work to individuals presenting with a variety of problems – including Depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Anxiety disorders, Adjustment difficulties, Low self-esteem, Relationship issues, and Work-related Stress. In the last few years she has been fortunate to expand her therapeutic skills with additional training in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Behavioural Family Therapy.

Dr Louise Egan – Director

Clinical Psychologist

 

Dr Louise Egan completed her doctorate in 2004, and currently works part-time as a Clinical Tutor at The University of Manchester training Clinical Psychologists. Her role involves the organisation and moderation of clinical placements and trainee competence, curriculum and module design and coordination, teaching and assessment. Louise is also Widening Participation Lead for the Division of Psychology and Mental Health and The University of Manchester.

 

As a director of Assured Psychological Services Ltd, Dr Egan offers assessments, therapeutic interventions, supervision, consultation and training to a wide range of individuals, professionals and organisations. She can support individuals across the life span who are experiencing a range of difficulties e.g. Depression, Trauma (including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), Anxiety Disorders, adjustment difficulties, Low Self Esteem, relationship issues, work related stress, behaviour that challenges, school difficulties and parenting/family challenges.

 

Dr Egan draws on a range of clinically proven models/theories to inform her work e.g. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), EMDR, behavioural/social learning and parenting e.g. Webster Stratton Incredible Years Parenting, attachment, developmental and systemic approaches.

 

She has developed a specialism in working with children and families and those professionals involved in their care across health, social care, youth justice and education. She developed a nationally recognised therapeutic fostering service for a local authority and was responsible for the coordination and delivery of highly specialist assessments and therapeutic interventions via a multidisciplinary team (e.g. Multidimensional Treatment Foster Care). She has provided assessments of parenting competence, recommendations regarding placements and contact to help inform social services and court proceedings.
